OGLETHORPE POWER ASSOCIATES HONORED WITH LIFE SAVING AWARD
ATLANTA (Dec. 2007) – Four Oglethorpe Power associates have been honored for helping to save the life of a worker who suffered from heat exhaustion last summer while working at power plant site near Talbotton, Georgia.
Brian Shadix, Matt Luchner, Ken Shupe and Jim Martin were instrumental in helping to locate and provide aid to a contract worker who became lost and disoriented while walking a pipeline adjacent to the Talbot Energy Facility.
After one of the men found the contractor lying face-down in heavy brush and in danger of a heat stroke, the four administered first aid until the victim recovered and was out of danger. The incident took place on a day when outside temperatures reached 103 degrees at the site.
For their quick-thinking and cool-headed actions, Luchner, Shadix, Shupe and Martin were honored with the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (GEMC) Life Saving Award, at the statewide trade association’s annual meeting in Atlanta.
The Life Saving Award was established to recognize employees of electric cooperatives in Georgia whose courage and skillful actions have been instrumental in rescuing another person from grave and immediate danger.
“We are proud of Brian, Matt, Ken and Jim for this act of heroism that helped to prevent a very serious injury and possibly even death,” said Mike Price, Chief Operating Officer for Oglethorpe Power.
Oglethorpe Power Corporation is a not-for-profit power supplier serving 38 of Georgia’s 42 Electric Membership Corporations, or EMCs. These EMCs provide electric service to more than 4 million Georgians across the state.
