Nuclear Development in Georgia
Because of its low fuel cost, reliability and lack of greenhouse emissions, nuclear power is likely to play a significant role in meeting the future energy needs in the U.S. and in Georgia.
In Georgia, two nuclear plants are in operation: The Alvin W. Vogtle facility near Waynesboro and the Edwin I. Hatch facility near Baxley. These plants were constructed in the 1970s and 1980s, and have operated efficiently and effectively since that time with no adverse impacts on the environment. In fact, these two plants produce some of the cheapest energy around with no greenhouse emissions.
