1997 Restructuring

In 1997, the Member Systems restructured Oglethorpe Power to prepare for expected changes in the utility industry and to better meet the needs of the Member Systems. This restructuring created two new cooperatives — Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) and Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) — to join Oglethorpe Power in serving the Member Systems.
The transmission line assets and operations that had been part of Oglethorpe Power since its inception were transferred to GTC, and the control room functions comprising Oglethorpe Power’s system operations functions were transferred to GSOC.
The three companies have separate boards and CEOs and maintain separate and distinct relationships with the Member Systems.
